Stunning Views and Unexpected Encounters
The valleys and views have always left me in awe, and yesterday was no different. My partner Simon, our dog Bernie, and I spent a few days in the Lake District for some much-needed rest and relaxation. I thought I was embarking on a gentle 7.5-mile hike, which usually takes a couple of hours. However, in the Lakes, an hour of uphill trekking on slippery stones only covered one mile.
Reaching the top was worth every step, as the views were spectacular. We walked across the fell to Dock Tarn, where only the sheep were brave enough to venture out on a showery, blustery day. A few more miles brought us to Watendlath, where Bernie, being his usual self, delighted in jumping into the tarn. This, much to the dismay of the hardy ducks, whose leisurely swim was abruptly disturbed.
Our walk concluded 3.5 hours later back at Stonethwaite, where we had started. Along the way, we were treated to the sight of a buzzard gracefully taking to the air, gently swirling in the thermals, and a friendly robin who hopped along a wall with us.
